character.
CHARACTER NAME: Snow White ( Mary Margaret )
SERIES: Once Upon A Time ( Snow / Mary Margaret. )
CANON POINT: Season Two, Episode 9: Queen of Hearts.
AGE: Late 20s but with the curse it's hard to tell exactly.
APPEARANCE: Snow White | Mary Margaret

PREVIOUS GAME HISTORY: n/a

PERSONALITY: As a character Snow White is very wrapped up inside her relationship with others. It is with them that her true personality shines through. With this in mind, I've decided to split up this section into how she interacts with certain people.

David | Prince Charming
"I will find you ... I will always find you."

Mary Margaret's relationship with David is a complicated one. It shows the real life applications of a fairy tale romance. That in the 'real world' these things don't just work out. There are other people to think about and all actions have consequences. There are other wives, jobs, reputations, that there aren't any castles and true love kisses and sometimes you will hurt other people without ever even meaning to. Mary Margaret is Snow White without the knowledge that good always wins, that she will always end up with her Charming. So she becomes a little selfish in her actions, sneaks out to see him when she can and when she shouldn't. It's obvious she sensing something of the pull between them. That she knows they're meant to be. But Mary Margaret can't believe in that - while she's a firm believer of love, she doesn't necessarily believe in what Henry is telling everyone. That before Storybrooke she was a princess with a prince who loved her.

"You ever walk into a situation where you know exactly what's going to happen, and then you go into it anyway and then when what you're afraid of happens, you kick yourself because you should have known better. But that's just who you are, so you keep punishing yourself."

So her actions cause hurt and upset and everyone assumes she's the town's harlot because she can't help herself. She can see it going that way before it does. She tries to stay away from David, but she can't. Even when everything seems to be as bad as it can be, his reaction to her hurts the most. When Regina frames Mary Margaret with murder, she's forced to take a look at how blindly she believes in people. That he could lie to her, that he could believe she was capable of such terrible things, that is the utmost hurt. Maybe this shows her naivety. Both as Snow and as Mary Margaret, she is always willing to believe the best in people and following that, assumes that people will always see the best in her. When that doesn't work out, her instinct is to run, to pull away from whatever doesn't trust her. It's almost as though she's always carrying around this belief that she's guilty, but is too busy fending it off to deal with the root of the problem.

So Snow White without Prince Charming isn't really Snow White at all. We see this a number of times throughout the show. Without him she loses some of her kindness, her goodness. In Storybrooke it ends up with her being desperate and willing to run from a bad situation, in the Enchanted Forest it comes as a an attempt to kill the Queen. But we see it first when they meet. Snow is a little harder, a little bolder. She's been living in the forest by herself for the most part, stealing from the Queen's carriages when they pass through the woods. This is how she meets Charming, mistaking him for one of the Queen's court.

Prince Charming: I told you I'd find you. No matter what you do, I will always find you.
Snow White: Is this the only way you can catch a woman? By entrapping her?
Prince Charming: It's the only way to catch thieving scum.
Snow White: You're a real "Prince Charming".
Prince Charming:I have a name, you know.
Snow White: Don't care. Charming suits you. Now cut me down, Charming.

She is a bitter, broken thing. Snow has already lost her family. She's being hunted down by the Queen. There is an absence of love in her life. Without love she is not herself.

"Sounds lonely."

When she later takes a potion to forget Charming, this is shown ten fold. She is angry, aggressive, unkind. She's vicious and violent and all of the things that she could have ended up naturally without someone there to hold her hand and nurture her. Snow White is nothing without the people who love her, being loved and loving others is what makes her the person that she is. It drives her. Even when she is so cruelly taken away from Charming so often, she never gives up, not really. Even at her canon point, the knowledge that he is somewhere out there, cursed and needing her, is enough to light a fire under her. He is her weakness, but he is also undoubtedly her strength. In the game itself this will be her moving factor, to get both herself and Emma out and back to their family. It may cause her to make a few bad decisions, ultimately align herself with people she might not necessarily trust ( see: how many times she works with Gold / Rumplestiltskin ). But she will always do whatever it takes because she always finds him.

Emma
"You're my daughter and I want to talk to you."

Snow White was always meant to be a mother. In Storybrooke this comes across as something milder. She's a fourth grade teacher and she looks out for Henry ( the boy she doesn't know is her grandson. ) When Emma shows up in town, Mary Margaret is the one to extend the hand of friendship, lets her move in, becomes something of a moral compass to Emma. She is already the nurturing type, she tries to heal the divide between Emma and her son while offering advice. She cares for the woman she sees as a friend almost instinctively and without any real reason. Because Mary Margaret sees the good in people. While others might distrust Emma, she has no reason to. She'd even go as far as to fight for her ( as shown when Jefferson - the Mad Hatter - kidnaps and threatens them both ).

Emma: When you bailed me out, you said you trusted me. Why?
Mary Margaret: It's strange, but ever since you've arrived here, I've had the oddest feeling, like we met before — and I know it's crazy.
Emma: I'm starting to re-evaluate my definition of crazy.
Mary Margaret: For what it's worth, I think you're innocent.

But without the knowledge that she is a mother, it's almost bland. There are moments when the woman she is supposed to be shines through ( as above, when she kicks Jefferson through a window ). The Snow who knows would move heaven and earth to protect what is hers. It's like it waits dormant within her and shows itself in odd little moments. When the curse is broken she assumes the role of a mother lioness, that she would stand between anything that threatened her daughter is obvious. Snow is a woman who has had the opportunity to raise her own child ripped from her. While she chose to send Emma to the real world, her hand was forced. She had to think of the fate of her child, of her world too. She had to have faith. Maybe she thinks she made a bad decision when she finally understands, but it doesn't show through. Instead it is replaced by a burning desire to follow Emma anywhere. When Emma goes through the portal to the Enchanted Forest, Snow states that she is not leaving her again and throws herself in too. She can't bare to lose her again and it is a single minded sense of need. She doesn't know how to treat Emma, how to interact with her, how to understand her. None of that matters because she needs to be with her.

Emma will be the deciding factor in her interactions within exitvoid. She'll be her reason for fighting nine times out of ten. She will also be the one who impacts the most on who she interacts with, either because Snow wants to protect her, or because she wants to understand her.

Regina | The Evil Queen
"She blames me for ruining her life."
"Did you?"
"Yes."

Snow White is the push that sends Regina hurtling into her future as the evil queen. But when they first meet, Snow is nothing but a child. She's sweet but foolish, she doesn't necessarily know or understand how the world works and that is taken advantage of. She thinks she is doing Regina a favour, by asking her mother to grant her a pardon for falling in love. Even at such a young age, she thinks that love is all that a person needs, it is the deciding force in the universe. Love is what matters. So when she tells Cora that Regina just wants to marry Daniel, she thinks she is doing something kind. Snow has already lost her own mother at such an early age, she couldn't bear someone else suffering the same fate. Her whole personality continually pinges on a mother/daughter relationship. It is this that all but seals everybody's fate.

Snow carries around a lot of guilt for this. She understands whole heartedly why the Queen would want to kill her. But she doesn't give in. It's not selfish, she is just too strong to allow someone to kill her out of bitterness. But this is what drives Snow to try and redeem Regina time and time again. As Mary Margaret she doesn't quite understand why Regina would want to ruin her life, she is confused and wounded when Regina sets in motion framing her for murder.

"And you would like that. Why? Why do you take such pleasure in this? What did I ever do to you to make you hate me so much?"

But she is still kind, still opting to apogolise. All of her cursed interactions with the Queen are the same as they would be where she in the Enchanted Forest. Snow wishes there were some way she could take back what she's done. But her whole life has been controlled as tightly as it could be. There have always been outside forces pushing her across the board. Snow sees herself as a good person because that is what her mother would have wanted for her, and what she would want for her own child. She struggles with this pressure though. Especially when everything seems to be falling down around her. It's this that has Charming go after her when she opts to kill the Queen - without her love still beating inside of her, she would do it. But he knows she wouldn't be able to live with herself afterwards. We also see it later when we get the flashback that has Snow stopping the Queen's execution. Everyone should have a chance to change. She believes in that wholeheartedly. It's this faith that has so much taken from her so often.

Mr. Gold | Rumplestiltskin
"Indeed I am. I've been looking forward to meeting you. You really are the fairest of them all, aren't you? What can I do for you?"
"I need a cure."
"What ails you, child?
"A broken heart."
"Ah. The most painful of afflictions.

As said before, Snow is always willing to bend the rules a little bit. Rumplestiltskin is traditionally a bad guy. In the fairy tale rules, Snow should stay as far away from him as possible. But that's often not the case. She all but allies herself with him in Storybrooke because while he is the way that he is, it's a case of better the devil you know. Gold has an agenda, but more often than not it's the same kind as Snow and Charming. While he is manipulative, it's unclear if Snow is wise to it, or simply if she's so used to him stacking the deck in her favour. She doesn't trust him, per say, but she's more willing to use him to get help.

Red Riding Hood / The Seven Dwarves / The Kingdom
"They're loyal creatures. If you love them and they love you, they will always find you."

Snow is also fond of her friends. Ruby is a "monster" in her world and yet she is Snow's greatest friend. She would go to any lengths to protect her. The Seven Dwarves are also a very important influence on her, namely Grumpy.

What is the most important thing to note in Snow White's interactions with the other members of her inner circle is how quickly people choose to put faith in her. She is a born leader because she is kind and understanding but she is also fierce and a woman with a warrior spirit. She does not shy away from battling the Queen to reclaim her birthright, because it is her right and also because she would be so much fairer upon the throne. Snow is both a soldier and a general, she can fight with the best of them and lead when she has to. She won't stand for people being treated unfairly and will predictably get herself involved in any and all attempts to stop this from happening.

ABILITIES: → Snow is a fabulous marksman. She's proven herself more than capable with a bow and arrow despite her 28 year stint as Kindergarden teacher Mary Margaret.
→ This extends to swordsmanship and the ability to use a fair number of weapons.
→ She's also a good tracker, able to use prints and instinct to follow creatures and people through the woods. Her survivalist skills will also be above average considering she spent so much time living on her own in the forest.
→ Snow White is royalty. She and Charming manage to rule their kingdom fairly and they both do their very best at defending their own. I think this implies that she has the ability to strategise and plan and knows where to draw her own advantages.

POSSESSIONS:The clothing shown here.
→ One bow.
→ Arrows.
→ One sword.
